COERR Mae Hong Son Organized Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Training to Youth

COERR Mae Hong Son organized Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Training to Youth in Ban Mae Surin temporary shelter in Mae Hong Son Province’s Khun Yuam District, on October 22, 2022 in which 105 youth of 47 males and 58 females participated.

The Training aimed to equip the youth with self-protection and community-based protection skills as well as usage of safety equipment when and where necessary.

The trainers of this training were those who had been trained by Emergency Rescue Committee before so they know how to make their community villagers understand by using simple words and contents, giving example of situation the learners are familiar with, so that they enjoyed and were eager to ask questions and were interested in the answers they received.

The contents of the DRR training course were causes of fire, how to prevent fire, and how to safely escape from fire. They were taught that fire is mostly caused by carelessness, for example, throwing cigarette butts, leaving the stove burning unattended, burning trash, burning dead trees, etc.

It is a must to put out the starting fire. If fire spread, it is necessary to shout for help and continue to put out. If fire is too fast to stop, then run to the direction with less smoke for survival.

When there is flash flood, it is safe to run to the highest areas. Take a look at the color of the river if it becomes muddy then hurry and go away. If you need to cross the waterway, check where the water level is low enough and safe enough to walk across.
